![]() If Embiid, Harrell, Reed and Tucker will all see minutes at center this year, there's little room for Bassey to crack the rotation barring multiple injuries. With Harrell in the fold, that calculus might have changed. Tucker lurked as a change-of-pace option as a small-ball 5. Bassey and Reed figured to split minutes behind him during the regular season, while P.J. Is he good offensively? No, not yet.Prior to Tuesday, Bassey seemed like a safe bet to make the roster, as the Sixers lacked center depth behind All-Star big man Joel Embiid. Is he improved? Definitely, on both ends of the floor. I had no idea he was so old (relatively speaking) Happy to have him back, but the contract is realistically slightly more than he's worth at the moment. This was the first year either of them legitimately looked like NBA level rotation players.Ĭlifford will love him to death though, he plays so hard, and is the exact kind of player Clifford will gladly give 30mpg to if he can get away with it. If he was 23 instead of 27, there would be a lot more hype around him and Caleb. ![]() The sample size just isn't there yet after having shot 25% in the two seasons prior to this one. He shot about 2 3PA per game (over 26mpg), went nearly 50% from deep in the first half of the season and then under 30% for the rest of it. I'll say calling Cody Martin a 3&D player is a bit premature. Worst: Trading the #13 for a worse future 1st round pick. I have a hard time seeing that going wrong and a pretty solid chance it turns into a major bargain. A good young 3&D wing signed to a 4 year sub-MLE contract. ![]() Gswhoops wrote:Best: I liked the Williams pick a lot but just to buck the trend a little, I'll say the Martin re-signing. That's the worst move of the offseason for me. Any other team and heads would be rolling. I had never been more excited about hearing about a Charlotte coaching search when it was believed D'Antoni and Atkinson were our finalists. It sends a clear message that we not only were an undesirable destination (that was known), but straight up NOBODY wanted the job. The coaching situation is an absolute indictment on the organization. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt here, and say that Mark Williams was the only rookie in that range that we truly liked, and that we now get a bit more ammunition in future seasons to gain some rotation pieces, and potentially move up in future drafts with these picks. Trading #13 for a future Denver 1st, and 4 2nds is, at the time on paper, one of the more baffling uses of a lottery pick in recent memory, despite Kupchak's good track record in the late 1st/early 2nd. Deliberately going into next season with Mason Plumlee as the only veteran center with a coach that has a long track record of playing bad vets while neglecting the development of interesting young players? Making exactly zero player trades to either improve the short term or take a small step back and improve the long term outlook even after it became fairly clear that teams around us were getting better and our 2nd best player is unlikely to be back? (and then the luxury tax implications of that move wound up not even mattering because of Miles' situation) Salary dumping a lottery pick for a future late 1st and 4 2nds when we already had a bit of a roster crunch? Then using two of the 2nds on McGowans who is on a two-way contract, keeping in mind that this franchise has never given a two-way player an NBA rotation minute in 6 years. We waited 6 or 7 weeks to hire Kenny and then watched him say never mind and we pathetically crawled back to the ex we kicked out 4 years ago? ![]() Firing Borrego was an impulse firing without a plan. (something out of the team's control, so not even including that in my analysis of Jordchak's catastrophe of an offseason) Worst: hooooooooo boy where do I begin? This offseason has been a mess from top to bottom, even if Miles Bridges never beats his wife in front of his kids on the eve of his free agency. He is exactly the archetype of player I want around LaMelo & Co long term, and I personally hope to see 48 minutes of him, Kai, and PJ at center this season. At the beginning of the offseason, I would've told you that drafting Mark would make this entire offseason an automatic win. ![]()
